Our talk at Sport and New Media

Yesterday we did a talk at the Sport Business Sport & New Media conference at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.

Our talk was about engaging people online. We were a little bit nervous about how it would go down, but everyone seemed to enjoy it and lots of people said they learnt some stuff from it, which is exactly what we wanted.

For those of you who weren't there, our presentation centred around the idea of online engagement being about conversations rather than campaigns.

We talked about some things we have learnt along the way:

1. You have to listen to your users if you are going to keep them engaged.

2. You need to offer something that adds value to their online experience- what are you doing to deserve five minutes of their time?

3. Be prepared to change. Where your audience are consuming content now isn't necessarily where they'll be consuming content in a year, or even six months.

After we finished the presentation I joined Jerry Newman from Chelsea and Jeff Nathenson from YouTube for a panel discussion about online engagement. It was a lot of fun, and great to be alongside two guys who really knew their stuff.

We managed to get some video of our talk on the new Flip HD, which I'll try to post up here, or on http://madebyfudge.com, but in the meantime feel free to have a nosey at our presentation.
